I'm having re-organizing mind kind of day. Let me explain.

It's been about a week since I started my (scattershot) campaign of reading more deeply into news (er, I want to be a grad student in journalism? It's probably a good idea - also, Columbia has a news quiz that is PRETTY HARD) Here's the thing - I am figuring out how to read the news, and for someone who had a lot of pride in her critical reading skills beforehand, I am SHAMED.

I.e. Yesterday, one of the NYT headlines is: "Obama Asks Bush to Provide Help for Automakers".

"Bush indicated at the meeting that he might support some aid and a broader economic stimulus package if Mr. Obama and Congressional Democrats dropped their opposition to a free-trade agreement with Colombia, a measure for which Mr. Bush has long fought, people familiar with the discussion said." (emphasis mine)

The conversation in question is the hour-ish conversation Bush and Obama had in the Oval Office on Monday, where supposedly no reporters, note-takers or anybody who hadn't been elected to the Presidency were allowed to be. People familiar with the discussion are who(m)? Obama staffers? (Drudge says so, and also includes a snarky quote from "a WH official". ). Current chief of staff Josh Bolton?

I think, a week ago, I would have scanned over the source of the information entirely.

ETA: GERARD! From feature writing class! Reporting! (video) ALSO, the main CNN anchor is SUCH A TOOL BAG.

It's kind of like the first time you watch The West Wing and realize you're not completely overwhelmed anymore by the politics they're throwing around.

(THIS HAPPENED TO ME, UH, SORT OF RECENTLY.)

Or the first time you finish an episode and realize, "Damn, they are partisan" and regardless, Josh Lyman gets that much more awesome.

When I watched the back-half of S2 not too long ago, it was like one revelation after another. The complexity of the M.S. scandal/reveal/intrigue ALL MADE TOTAL AND ABSOLUTE SENSE TO ME. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL THING.

In conclusion, Sagittarius.
