it's a chicken or the egg problem
Nov. 8th, 2008 11:46 amMore proof of the burgeoning fandom response to Obama's election:
Last night I met up with my friend Fi. We're at a crowded U St bar (U St = historically Black neighborhood of DC that's currently in a wave of gentrification) and she introduces her friend, down from New Paltz, NY.
Me: What brings you to town?
Friend: I just felt inspired! I wanted to see the Lincoln Memorial after this great election.
Me: Oh.... um great! The monuments are very pretty at night.
Friend: Yeah, I wasn't expecting an eight hour ride though! It'll be worth it, though, to be here only for day!
It was too dark to see well, but I'm fairly sure Fi was rolling her eyes at me. Then I made some jokes about "RAHM FUCKING EMANUEL" and she looked at me blankly. The whole interaction had the feel of a brief, real life example of when you run into some noob shipper on the interwebs.

Otherwise, last night was a non-starter. The DJ was good but the bar was too crowded. Today is lazy, watch Stephen Fry and maybe think about applications day.
