saturday morning, rain isn't falling

I'm off to watch a football game, not because I care, but because my friends do, and hey, I like hanging out with my friends. Also grilling. And beer.

But before I leave, I want to link to Cesperanza writing a really thoughtful post about US politics without using the words "sarah" or "palin" or "barracuda", which I am enormously grateful for. Say what you will about the culture wars, but a thoughtful empathy experiment wins out for me every time.

Maybe this is what people talk about when they talk about "inside the Beltway". I mean, its so inside baseball here that during the bar trivia night on Wednesday, four team names were snarky political jokes only related to the news cycle that day. I mean, I'm going to be a elite, gay-loving, latte-sipping city dweller liberal until THE END OF TIME, but it doesn't mean I can't think maybe the particular echo chamber we've got ourselves in is really destructive.
